£250 million available for English businesses to invest in skills training

Through the new Employer Ownership of Skills Scheme businesses in England will be able to bid for training & skills education grants from a budget worth a quarter of a billion pounds. The scheme has been setup in collaboration with the UK Commission for Employment and Skills& the Department for Education and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills. The £250 million will be split over two years and is only available to businesses and firms in England.

John Hayes launched this campaign by stating

“This Government is determined to do all it can to support growth across the economy. Skilled people are essential to securing that growth. It is vital we create the best environment for businesses to develop and train their workforce and to strive for success.”

Supporters of the scheme, like UKCES Commissioner Sean Taggart argue that this investment will help “enable employers to design, develop and deliver the training their business needs for growth.” Growth is the central tenet of this scheme – to build a fluid and multi-skilled workforce – that will help in achieving these ends
