Official figures released by the Office for National Statistics this morning reveal that levels of employment improved in the last quarter.
Between December 2011 and February 2012 29.17 million people aged 16 to 64 were employment. This is up by 53,000 on the quarter. Levels of youth unemployment also fell by 9,000 to 1.03 million.
Speaking at a Policy Exchange event, Stephen Timms shadow Minister for Employment stated that the “Government needs to do more”.
Today’s figures follow announcements yesterday by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) that the UK economy is predicted to grow by 0.8% this year up form the previous prediction of 0.6. However it is not all good news as the IMF also predicted negative growth in the Euro zone which could potentially have a negative affect on UK economic output.
