Employers are "clueless" with regards to apprenticeships

Jason Holt, Chief Executive of Holts Group of Companies in charge of reviewing the apprenticeship programme, has revealed that employers are “clueless” when it comes to apprenticeships.

Mr Holt has been tasked by the Government to conduct an employer-led review on the quality of the apprenticeship schemes in order to encourage a greater uptake of apprenticeships by businesses.

In an update on the progress of his review, Mr Holt revealed that a lot of employers aren’t aware of apprenticeship and are ignorant of the processes. He further criticised schools on their role towards apprenticeships, stating:

They are focused on an academic route and the opportunities for apprenticeships aren’t something that’s clearly defined”.

Mr Holt is still conducting his research and is due to give his recommendations to the Government in May.
