1,500 young people apply for 28 apprenticeship places in Norfolk

An apprenticeship programme aimed at helping young NEETs in Norfolk has been completely oversubscribed with 53 applicants applying for every position.  The difficult situation faced by many young people has been demonstrated by 1,500 young people applying for 28 apprenticeships offered jointly by Norse Group and Norfolk County Council.

Ian Mackie deputy leader and cabinet member for finance and performance said “1,500 applications for 28 jobs is overwhelming.  It shows the level of interest in undertaking an apprenticeship and it also shows the level of need”.

Norfolk County Council has allocated £891,000 to the scheme and Norse Group will provide nearly £800,000 into the scheme.  The county council has pledged to create a further 400 apprenticeship places from July.
