So Remploy wasn't too expensive afterall... Regional Growth fund spends £200,000 per job

As a result of the Sayce Review, the government concluded that £25,000 was far too much to spend on getting someone into work.

Well, well, well: the truth is often stranger than fiction. Nick Clegg clearly didn’t read the review..

The National Audit Office has reported that the original £1.4bn invested in the Regional Growth Fund was only likely to create 41,000 extra fulltime jobs in the private sector over the next seven years.

The fund was launched two years ago and the NAO has said that the average cost per job is £33,000 however the costs varied from less than £4,000 to more than £200,000. The NAO went on to state that the taxpayer would have received a better deal if bids for the fund had been better scrutinised.
