Lone Parent unemployment steadies. But expect big rises in the coming months

Lone Parents mirrored other groups in May’s Unemployment figures, falling slightly (-0.65) on the previous months although up 4% on the previous year. The biggest fall was amongst those with children between 12 and 15. The only increase was for those with children under 7.

For the last year there have been between 112,000 and 122,000 Lone Parents on JSA,  but the figures are set to rise again soon, as from 21 May parents with children over 5 will also move on to JSA.
