Following weeks of opposition regarding the Governments Back to programme, such as it being equated to “forced labour”, Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan Smith has hit back saying that it was “anarchists” opposing the programme.
In oral questions to the Work and Pension minister on Monday 25th June, Mr Duncan Smith adamantly defended the programme outlining that the within 21 weeks of launching the work experience placement nearly half of those involved have stopped claiming benefits, arguing that the programme is successful in delivering job outcomes.
However later on during the session Mr Duncan Smith argued that the Labour Party and Anarchists put pressure on business to stop providing work experience placements, the Work and Pensions Secretary stated:
“I sometimes get confused as to who the anarchists are and who the Labour party members are when I look at the Opposition line-up”.
