Superfast broadband is set to come to the Welsh valleys after BT won one of the first government-subsidised contracts to lay fibre optic cables across the area.
The Government has provided funds to stimulate fibre optic investment in thinly populated areas and the Welsh contract is one of the most substantial on offer.
The £425 million funding comprises £58 million from the Welsh government, £57 million from the Broadband Delivery UK fund and £90 million from the European Regional Development Fund. BT has matched that money with £220 million.
As a result BT will create 50 new jobs in the area as well as 100 apprenticeships.
