Official Work Programme referral and attachment statistics released

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has published the latest tranche of official statistics on referrals and attachments to the Work Programme.

The total number of referrals to the Work Programme from 1st June 2011 to end of April 2012 was 738,000 and the total number of attachments was 693,000. On average, 95% of referrals were attached to the Work Programme within 3 months of referral.

Attachments for ESA customers remain low. Only 57,000 (8.2% of the total number of attachments) were in the ESA payment group and less than 2,000 (0.3%) were in the IB/IS volunteer group. Given the original invitation to tender indicated that 144,000 ESA customers would be referred in the first full year, the current numbers are well below the expectations of providers.

Regarding ESA claimants there is a problem of lower than anticipated referrals to the Work Programme.

The full statistical release can be found here.

ERSA is working hard to address concerns expressed by providers that the referral to attachment rate for the new payment group for JSA prison-leavers is only 37%.
