The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed that there is likely to be transitional support for claimants moving on to Universal Credit.
Under the new Universal Credit, claimants will receive their benefit four weekly in arrears.
During his address at the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) conference in Manchester, welfare reform minister Lord Freud confirmed that from next October Universal Credit will see claimants paid their benefit directly, monthly in arrears. When asked about what plans were in place to support people in the transition from receiving benefits every two weeks to monthly, Lord Freud explained,
We’re developing a transitional payment system to help people through that.”
