Welfare to Work 2010 Special: Adam Sharples.

What the Civil Servant said

ADAM SHARPLES

Adam spoke at length… the most interesting part came as he answered questions raised from the floor…..

Question: “You talk about early intervention that means private and voluntary sector provision or rather not Jobcentre Plus?  So by inference there is a need to rethink what Jobcentre Plus does and the resources at its disposal…”

Adam Sharples response “…..the overwhelming majority of people who have contact with the welfare to work system will have a contact with JCP…….. … …collectively we need to open up this debate….”

Adam Sharples response “…we’ve put in place a new support contract arrangement, so JCP locally can draw down without having to go through any procurement process…”

Adam Sharples… “Whatever we’re doing in welfare to work we have to think about who ultimately makes the decision to hire somebody and the answer is it’s an employer.  If we don’t understand the employer, understand their psychology, get under their skin……..”
