London’s Mayor, Boris Johnson, published a report entitled ‘Increasing Employment in London’, which calls upon the UK’s government and businesses to assist London’s citizens in gaining access to education and employment opportunities.
In this documentation the Mayor sets out five key points which he believes will enhance the existing jobs and skills opportunities for London’s constituents.
These include:
- welfare reform,
- making work pay,
- more coherent public sector support,
- a more influential role for the Mayor in terms of affecting the skills and employment agenda, and
- building on the pledge made by the GLA Group and London Boroughs to deliver approximately 5,000 apprenticeships by 2010.
