High Street pub chain, JD Weatherpoon, has pledged to create approximately 1,000 new jobs for school leavers over the next twelve months. The positions being offered include front-of-house customer service and roles within the food kitchens. The new workers will not come into contact with any alcohol.
Furthermore, new employees will be given the opportunity to study for NVQ qualifications, with the chance to complete a professional business diploma or a honours degree if they progress to managerial status.
The Head of Personnel and Training at Weatherspoon, Mandy Ferries, said “We believe that many school-leavers will welcome the opportunity to work for Wetherspoon. We can offer them the chance to study as part of their work as well as progress within the company”.
Last year, Personnel Today, learnt that over 40 per cent of the 10,000 new employees Weatherspoons intends to recruit will be sourced from the UK’s pool of long-term unemployed people.
