Welfare to Work

– The State pension rises…

The state pension is to rise to around £140 a week per person – an increase of more than 40% – under government plans that will benefit women in particular

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) says the aim of the reform will be to provide a “decent” pension for everyone in the UK.

Means testing will be swept away and the money saved will pay for the increases.

At present the basic state pension is £97.65 for a single person and £156.15 for a couple with a means-tested top-up for the poorest.

This ensures single pensioners have an income of at least £132.60 and couples get £202.40.

  1. I have just been checking my tax code and was told that my state pension is taken of my tax allowance then the difference is my allowance if that makes sence with my works pension and state pension I get 13,500 a year my tax allowance because I am 67 should be 9,490 but oh no my state pension comes of that. This is beyond words I have worked all y life never claimed unemployment or sick benifit and this is how we pensioners are treated. Why do the governemnt think we have not paid enough taxes and NI all our working life I wonder how many pensioners are not aware of this, or is the information given to me by the tax office wrong.
