Councils call for greater control over skills policy

Ahead of next week’s budget the Local Government Association (LGA), which represents 350 councils in England and Wales, has argued that there is untapped financial potential in their areas.  The letter argues that if local councils had greater control over skills and transport projects, combined with looser regulations on pooling public sector resources, local areas could become an “attractive proposition” to international investors.  The group argues that greater control would encourage more investment which in turn would generate more jobs and help economic growth.
