The National Teachers Union has criticised plans to introduce regional pay for teachers outlining that a regional pay system will make it difficult for schools in certain areas to recruit teachers. If the government decides to introduce a regional pay scheme The National Teachers Union and other public sector worker unions have threaten industrial action.
Unions have argued that current national pay system is best suited as it already includes four different pay bands. A survey conducted by the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) also revealed that 53 per cent teachers fear that the regional pay will introduce discrimination against older teachers.
