17% of Britons say it is too easy to sack people

Following the publication of one of the Coalition’s most controversial reports, the Beecroft report, research by YouGov has found that nearly a fifth of people in the UK think that it is too easy to sack people.

The research found that 39% of Britons think that it should be easier to sack employees, 33% think that the current regulations are about right and 17% think that there is not enough regulation protecting employee rights.

Following a backlash of public opinion, the Government will not pursue the “No fault dismissal” however the same poll by YouGov has found that nearly half of people (49%) support allowing small businesses with fewer than ten employees to opt out of some regulations such as providing flexible working, flexible parental leave and a pension scheme.

We have sneaky suspicion that many of the 39% who believe that it should be easier to sack employees are pretty secure in their jobs. Its obvious isn’t it…..
