Minister make announcement on future of Remploy factories

Ministers yesterday have confirmed the fate of 27 of the UK Remploy factories.

In a parliamentary session yesterday Minister for Disabled people Maria Miller confirmed that 27 of the 54 Remploy factories will close.  It is estimated that 1,400 disabled people will lose their jobs.  Ms Miller further outlined that the Government was in discussions with bidders over nine other factories and a review had started into the future of the last 18 factories.

Previously comment on the future of the Remploy factories Shadow work and pensions minister Liam Byrne said “It beggers belief that this government has chosen the height of recession to sack more than a thousand disabled workers.  These factories are in parts of the country where up to 17 people are chasing every job”
